How MSPT Connects Position Risk with Portfolio Context
MSPT separates portfolio exposure from trade risk, then records the entry, structural stop, position assumptions, targets, and review actions that define a plan.
Separate weight from risk
Portfolio weight describes how much of the selected portfolio is allocated to a holding. Trade risk describes the loss implied by the planned entry, structural stop, and position size. The two measures answer different questions and should be reviewed together.
Portfolio allocation uses holdings from the selected portfolio and the same cash treatment shown on the Holdings page. It does not mix an unrelated research universe into the portfolio calculation.
Define the plan before measuring progress
- Record an intended entry and a structural stop based on the thesis or setup.
- Use the distance between entry and stop as the initial risk per share.
- Size the position and portfolio risk from explicit assumptions rather than a target return.
- Record targets, review dates, and the evidence that would change the plan.
Interpret R and Trade Control
R expresses progress relative to the plan's initial risk. R levels and targets are plan-relative reference points, not return forecasts or promises.
Trade Control detects conditions that may deserve review and provides a path to manage, confirm, snooze, or dismiss an action. It does not make the investment decision or automatically replace the user's judgment.
Broker scope
Broker integration is optional. Users can choose no broker integration, read-only IBKR research and portfolio sync, or IBKR paper trading. The current public mobile product does not place live orders.
Method limitations
- Market gaps and slippage can produce losses beyond a planned stop.
- Partial fills, corporate actions, stale prices, and missing broker evidence can change calculated status.
- Options and other derivatives require contract-specific risk review beyond a stock plan.
- Alerts and calculated actions depend on available portfolio, price, plan, and execution records.
- MSPT supports review and record keeping; it does not provide personalized investment advice.
